Description:

This is a draft review copy of the 2021 South Atlantic Conservation Blueprint. You can explore the draft 2021 Blueprint here, or you can download it to review on your own computer.

The Blueprint is a living spatial plan for sustaining natural and cultural resources in the face of future change. It identifies opportunities for shared conservation action, prioritizing the lands and waters of the South Atlantic based on natural and cultural resource indicator models and a connectivity analysis. So far, more than 700 people from over 200 organizations have actively participated in developing the Blueprint. To learn more about the Blueprint, visit the Blueprint page.

Priority Categories

***Please note that these draft review priorities do not yet contain corridors. At this year's Blueprint workshops in late May/early June (register here if you haven't already!), we will be discussing and asking for feedback on the approach to corridors in this and future Blueprints. This draft prioritizes 50% of the South Atlantic landscape, just like the final Blueprint will do. However, some of the lowest-scoring pixels in the medium priority class may ultimately be removed from the final Blueprint to make space to add corridors. This will depend on the corridor approach selected.***

Highest priority for shared action: the most important areas for natural and cultural resources based on indicator condition. This class covers 10% of the South Atlantic geography.

High priority for shared action: important areas for natural and cultural resources based on indicator condition. This class covers an additional 15% of the South Atlantic geography; together, the highest and high priority categories cover 25%.

Medium priority for shared action: above-average areas for natural and cultural resources based on indicator condition, capturing potential restoration opportunities. In the draft, this class covers 25% of the South Atlantic geography; together, the highest, high, and medium priority categories cover 50%.
